I went to Katuit in Dendermonde today. A parade found in 1522, as a procession to bless the Holy-Mary-church. Three giants Indiaan, Mars and Goliath, became an asset in the processions and folk festivals.
Walking giants: This one is called ‘Mars’. (he has an awful moustache btw)
Bagpipes: Not only a Scottish tradition as you see!
Knaptanden: Guys dressed in wolves who make the people scared!
The history says… It was already shown in 1631 and was created in response to an unknown fish that swam in the Dender (river). This huge creature had a mouth full of terrible teeth and looked like a dog head…
And of course, i’m Belgian so i must eat Belgian Wafels! :)
